Power to prosper

Renewable energy will give Wales the power to prosper.
In our nation, people and nature will work together for a brighter, cleaner future.

Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru’s mission is to unlock the renewable energy potential of Wales, and deliver benefits to our society, our environment and our economy, for everyone living and working in Wales today and for future generations.

We will do this through delivery excellence, responsible leadership and proactive collaboration.

Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru is fully owned by the Welsh Government https://www.gov.wales/

Our Aims

Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru’s remit from Welsh Government, is to develop and deliver renewable energy projects, starting on the Welsh public estate, with the best possible long-term economic and social benefits for the people of Wales.

Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru’s goals are to:

  • develop a minimum of 250MW of new renewable energy generation capacity by 2030 and an additional 750MW of new capacity by 2040, subject to grid capacity being available.
  • be an exemplar developer, working with the wider industry and communities.
  • advise and work with the public sector, to realise locally owned renewable energy generation.

Find out about our work

We are assessing where best to develop renewable energy projects, sustainably, with our focus on and around the Welsh Government Woodland Estate. Better, more sustainable development means delivering the most positive effects for people, nature and planet, over the long term. The work starts by looking at data from multiple sources, often gathered over many years, describing natural, environmental and socio-economic characteristics. If an area looks promising, we’ll also undertake bespoke local surveys. Read more about what's involved in environmental and technical studies feeding into our plans.

What we do

Why Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru?

There are already many developers operating in Wales, the UK and globally. Will Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru make a difference? All renewable energy developers can help address the impacts of climate change, contribute to the energy transition, and over the long term, help to bring down the cost of energy for bill payers. Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru is the only larger-scale onshore wind developer wholly owned by the people of Wales with a singular focus on delivering for Wales. Meet the team.

Who we are

Can nature and renewable energy infrastructure coexist in harmony?

One of the greatest threats to nature is climate change. Nature is also threatened by local impacts from many different kinds of human activity. Better understanding means better, more sustainable infrastructure development. Choosing where to develop is key. Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru will be part of the drive for more strategic and efficient use of Welsh public land, delivering multiple benefits in each location. Conifer plantation forests provide important resources to society, and the cyclical pattern of felling and replanting opens up space for wind turbines. With new forest management practices, commercial forestry works better with nature, and in partnership, we will be exploring opportunities to deliver biodiversity benefits.
